A gift for yourself?

 Maybe.

Do you own one of these?  They are heavy.  The best place for them is on the counter and even then if you want to use it, you have to lift and turn it around.

Want the solution?

Here it is:  A mat!!  and here are some ideas for them.

If you live close by you could purchase one from the church bazaar, but as most of you don't let's get cracking.

Let's make one!!  They are simple and easy.

This is the pattern.  I designed it you have my permission to use it.  Yes, it is copyright!!!

The first thing I did were the five blocks............one on each corner and one in the centre

You will need two different colours/designs.

You will need 20 rectangles and they are cut
                                                             2 1/2" wide  x 3 1/2" length to form a block

The top and bottom and the two sides are 4 rectangles cut 4 1/2" x 6 1/2".  My fabric was directional so I opted to do it this way rather than my original thought which I'm not showing.

Sandwich the mat with a backing, Pellon fusible fleece and the top.  How you quilt it is up to you.  I like it simple so I can do it on my machine.  I didn't go down through the middle.  I took my masking tape (handy darn invention) and started off on each side of the seam.  I just kept moving the masking tape over until both sides were finished.  Did it in the blink of an eye!!

all stitched and ready to bind!!

and
because I can't stand things not completed.
Voila!!

Now all I need to do is bake.  I think I'm getting the ingredients for one of my mother-in-law's cakes.  My goodness that woman was amazing.  Baking, cooking, her old farmhouse was spotless.  I dream of being like her.  Here is her recipe for Aeblekage......apple cake.  It's in English

ÆBLEKAGE

Dansk Apple Cake

“fabelagtig”

2 cups of fine bread crumbs

1/3 cup butter

 1/2 cup sugar

1 jar of applesauce (try to buy a name brand because others are watery)

Whipping cream

Melt butter in fry pan.  Add bread crumbs, and sugar stirring together and making sure the bread crumbs are nicely coated with the margarine.  Remove from the heat.  Watch them or they will toast to a burnt shade!!

In a glass baking dish (cause you want to see the layers) layer as follows

1 layer of applesauce

1 layer of bread crumbs

1 layer of applesauce

1 layer of bread crumbs

Top with remaining applesauce

Bake in a 350*F oven for about 25 minutes.  Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
