and I wanted something for our front door. I searched on line for something appropriate but it seemed to me that most were for Black Lives Matter and they do!! All lives do.
Then on Instagram our Mayor's Office posted this.......
Bingo!! It was perfect. But where did it come from??? I messaged John in the office -- he's the IT guy -- great guy -- and the city employees designed this and he gave me permission to use it. I had to give mention so he just said the staff from the Mayor's Office. (I really wanted to use his name but --)
I fortunately had just two pieces of printable fabric left and the first one printed perfectly. I went downstairs and pulled a green and gold fabric for the borders. Then a binding, and the absolute perfect backing. Left-over from a Christmas pillow. Everything was working out beautifully.
After about an hour -- because I had a plan in mind -- I had the top put together. I fused the backing to fusible fleece and the pressed the top down and pinned it.
Here you go. My tribute to Black History month which is hanging on our front door.
In the little pocket I wrote my feelings about this wall hanging. Here it is:
First of all
many, many thanks
to the staff in the
Mayor's Office
City of Burlington, Ontario
for the use of their Black History Month Design.
The colours on the front were chosen to
go with their design.
The backing was pulled from my stash and I
immediately thought of Nat "King" Cole,
Louis Armstrong, Charlie Pride,
Oscar Peterson, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross
and my Dad's favourite song
"What a Wonderful World".
Someday I hope we can all sing that song together
Until then.....
