This book is based on a true story. A story of young children put on a ship and sent to Canada to become farm labourers, housekeepers, servants. A part of our history that should be told. A part of our history that our forefathers should have been very ashamed of.
Genevieve Graham is a Canadian author and I am finding each and every one of her books fabulous. This one however, was the very best!! I believe it's my fourth book that I have read by her, but this touched me deeper than the rest.I'm not going to tell you of the hardships most of these children faced once they landed in Canada. I'm going to suggest you buy this book or see if your library carries it. It is worth a few days of reading.
I was shocked to learn that Canada recognizes these children on September 28th. I had never heard of it. I'm going to take a moment or two tomorrow in recognition of these children. I hope you will too.

P.S. Bluebird was fabulous too. Well, all of them are really and isn't it wonderful to pick up a book in the afternoon and spend your time deep in history so very well told. Canadian History to boot!!
