BRITAIN, 1940
The war was raging and London was being bombed continuously, but people soldiered on.
Josie worked in a tea shop
Stan, her husband, was deployed
and then!!
A very condensed version of the book
The tea shop was bombed with the owner inside
Josie's home was bombed and she suffered a concussion and a broken collarbone
Josie is evacuated into the country
"where the sky begins"
A new life
a fresh start
with one contankerous old woman
and what ends up being -- ah-ha, I'm not going to tell you.
This book was fabulous, just like the last Rhys Bowen book I read.
I didn't do much housework
or knitting
or sewing
I just sat and read the book in my "afternoon chair", on the deck
and curled up with my pillow at night.
I'm going all out on this one
******
Count them -- 6* out of 5
Yes, it was that good.
Josie, Mrs. Harcourt, Kathleen, Stan, and Mike Johnson (who has a past)
Everyone has a story including the children evacuated at the same time as Josie.
A book worth buying
Indigo has the book, paperback or hardcover
and it was published last year so it's a "newbie".
Indigo had a book sale and I could not resist.
This is supposed to be my summer reading.
We shall see
North America is in celebration mod!!
Canada Day is 'first' up
and then
Independence Day in the USA.
A great weekend -- we hope
Enjoy everyone.
My last week of posting is next week. After that -- September
