In 1966, Karl and I moved into this apartment building in Oakville.
In 1967 I was expecting our first child.
A young woman came up to me in the laundry room and said
"when is your baby due?"
That was the beginning of a 55 year friendship that has never wavered
that became stronger when
both of us battled medical diagnosis the same year......2005
I only had breast cancer
Joanne had a benign tumour on her brain.
When they operated, the doctor hit a nerve and for weeks it was touch and go whether she would survive.
She did,
but the left side of her body was so badly affected she had no use of her hand and her left leg is in a support brace and she has a terrible time walking.
She is now in a nursing home because her husband and caregiver died a few years ago.
I phoned her one day to tell her the book I had ordered was here but she had to wait because I was giving her something for her 80th birthday.
"Too late, Bev, that was last year"
So here you go for her 80 plus one birthday
The fabric line is called Lovely Bunch and I ordered it from Lindley General Store in Meaford
I opted for the blue because that is Joanne's favourite colour.
A simple pattern of 8 x 10 inch blocks.
An OMNI thread to stitch it out
A simple pattern to quilt it with----Daisy Bounce
and it was done in two days......bad knees and all
To the quilt
I added a homemade birthday card
and a book to read while she snuggles under her quilt
and now......
all wrapped up.
Want to make wrapping easier?
Take some grosgrain ribbon and to each end sew down some Velcro. I thought of this use for the ribbon I kept, but the Velcro idea is not mine. Pyjamas were shipped to me from Northern Reflections and this ribbon held them together. I thought it was a pretty good idea so I kept it for future use.
Quote for the day..........
