to get started on gifts for whatever the occasion. A birthday in July, a bazaar in November, Easter is coming. You get the drift.
I've already written a blog post on pocket pillows here so I'm not going to give you instructions again on how easy they are to make.
I did come up with a thought though. If you purchased fabric and then followed it through with a theme, (I am very big on 'themes'!!) you would have the perfect gift.
If you purchased a fabric like this which I found at my local quilt shop, you buy 1/2 metre and quilt it out. Put the pocket on, no zipper required!! Isn't that great! I do not like putting zippers in. I bungle them every time. You have now spent about $20 -- maybe more -- for one pillow cover.
I strongly suggest you check out Mary Maxim for the pillow forms. They are very, very good and very inexpensive and they will ship to your door. From two forms, I can pull stuffing out of both and then you can make three forms with some left over for four!! They are regularly $7.99 versus Michaels which at least check were $23 for one!! All 18 x 18". I know where my money is going.
If you want to stretch your budget you can download Aesop's Fables -- they are not copyright -- so you are good to go. You can find them all here on the Library of Congress website. Find a matching story to the fabric and pop it into the pocket.
To make it special, I copy and paste the story onto Word, and use a lovely font called Lucida Calligraphy and make it the size that only takes one page!! That part is a cost saver.
I use the same cardstock every time I print off something special for someone. It is from Staples and it is beige and I love it. It runs about $32. for a package but you get 250 sheets. I'm not fond of white cardstock but it does come in an array of colours.
Find an Aesop Fable, find the co-ordinating fabric and you have a gift every child will love.
