February 14th

I was lucky enough to marry someone with values.  His nickname is "the farmer".  In real life he drove a tanker truck that carried chlorine.  An 18 wheeler up and down Ontario highways.

We could also call him "the hero".  An everyday act by truck drivers, but few get recognized for it.
Someone took the time out of their day to find out his name and to thank him for saving her life and her husband's.

According to our son's writing on the back this photo was taken at the Greenway Water Treatment Plant in London, Ontario.  Apparently, it didn't smell very nice inside this place.

He was given an award by his company, Diversey Corporation that was at one time in Clarkson (Mississauga), Ontario

This is the letter, dated May 10th, 1995
I didn't know a thing about it until he brought the award home.  It's what he did, it's his nature.
Here is the letter dated May 10th, 1995

Mr. Giulio Turturro

Operations Manager

On Friday, February 24, 1995, my husband and I were on the 401 highway about to enter onto the 400 highway. We were moving steadily when traffic abruptly stopped!!

As I looked into my passenger rear view mirror, as did my husband, who was driving, we immediately realized a very large truck was also going to have to stop or ultimately hit us in the rear.

With barely seconds to make a decision, the drive of the tuck quickly veered to the right where he had little to no room to move. Had he not been paying as much attention he may have hit us and I hate to think of the outcome as we drive a Dodge Shadow.

As the truck went by us, we retrieved our hearts from the soles of our shoes in appreciation. I noted the truck was a tanker truck and the inscription read “DIVEREY” etc.

Diversey I know well as they are our chemical supplier at work at Peel Memorial Hospital, Food Services Dept. I am the supervisor who works closely with one of your best people. Shane McKay.

I said to my husband “Can you imagine if we’d been hit, Shane would have for sure and it would have been a customer!” Anyway, I wanted you to hear some positive feedback of the obvious commitment to the safe driving of one of your drivers. The man looked about 55 years old and Shane assisted me to get his name.

The driver’s name is Carl Anderson. He was driving onto the 400 at approximately 4:00 pm February 24, 1995

Thank you so much Carl. You saved our lives!! Keep up the great work. You certainly did that day!

Roberta Silcock

c/o Peel Memorial Hospital, Brampton.

Karl actually delivered to this hospital. The next time he went in he asked for Roberta and got to meet her. In his humble way he thanked her.

This past week he found the letter amongst a pile of things in his armoire. I told him that was it, these are being framed. They are keepsakes for his kids.

Happy Valentine's Day
