I'm going back two generations to honour my Granny
who immigrated to Canada from Scotland
with 5 young children in tow

Her husband had come over the year before to find a job
and he did. In Bowmanville, Ontario.
They left that home and moved to Long Branch and my grandpa
found employment at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.
They had 3 more children in Canada, one of whom was my mother.

The house they built she lived in for the rest of her life.

My Grandpa died at the age of 58 from a massive blood clot to the brain.
Granny had already buried one son at the tender age of 4 to pneumonia
During the depression she took in laundry and ironing to keep things going.
She never took a hand out from anyone.
She sold a piece of her large property so she didn't have to move.
She never told a soul until after the deed was done.
She worked hard all her life raising her family and providing good hearty home cooked meals.
AND she was known for skimming the cream off the top of the milk bottle for her tea.
That was Granny's treat.

That was Granny's treat.
Granny was out cutting her back lawn with a push mower when she suffered a major stroke.
It happened on Labour Day weekend of 1965.
It was the saddest day of my life.
She died that year on November 9th.
There was a massive blackout across the northeast of North America that day.
We thought it fitting that our part of the world went dark the day
the kindest, hardest working soul I ever knew
past away.
She is still missed to this day.
Love you Granny and thanks for watching over me all these years.
