I had this idea

so I decided to head over to a website I've been on before.  Amy Smart has this lovely site and every once in awhile I pop in.

This link will take you right to it.

I wanted "ornaments" so I decreased the size of the stocking to 5 inches which also includes the seam allowance of 1/4".  Before you start making the stockings make sure it measures 5 inches.  It will be a bit fiddly if you make it smaller.

I went through my stash and found fabrics for the outside and the lining.  Two stockings as I had lots of time.
I cut the pattern out and with a pencil marked the back of the fabric.  That was my CUTTING line.

I left a 1 1/2" opening in the lining when I sewed the outside of the stocking.  It is made the same as Amy's stocking.  Just follow her directions.  So easy.
I hung them on the "decorative" tree that is in the den window.  One Santa, one winter scene.  I am hoping to make a bunch of these through the year to donate to bazaars next year.

The hangers are cut 7" and tied in a knot then I got out the hot glue gun and stuck them in place.

The next day, I had a thought so I flew with it.  I made the template larger.  It will finish at 5".  You could keep going if you wanted to.  I will make this suggestion......press the seams OPEN.
When turning, turn the outer side first and then when you turn the inside start with the toe of the stocking and with something that isn't sharp.........I used my scissors because they have rounded ends, push the lining to the bottom.  Turn the top over so you have a cuff, add some decoration if your fabric is plain -- like the red flannel, tie your ribbon and using your glue gun -- do not burn your fingers -- glue everything in place.

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care....
