I spend a lot of time "googling". It may take me a few hours to find what I want without "youtube" instructions, but eventually with the right wording, I get it.
I'm cheap, I don't like to pay for knitting instructions!! There, I've been honest. I want the free-ist stuff I can find. I pay a lot of bucks for really good yarn and I watch for sales for my Paton's Canadiana or wait for discounts on shipping or just an overall discount on an order.
I had a ball of chunky yarn in the house and I wanted a toque for men. I finally found this on Handy Little Me and it was what I was looking for. It is the easiest knitting and because the yarn is chunky it knits up fast. One evening 'watching' television.I buy this yarn at The Knitter's Boutique downtown Burlington. It is luxurious. It is so lovely to knit up. Nine inches of K2, P2 and a simple easy cast off. Then that pom pom
Left over yarn from a previous project (Cody's yarn) added in with the grey from the toque. It gives it pop, it gives it zip and right away I thought of the Hamilton Tiger Cats -- my football team!! I asked a friend to try this hat on for sizing. He is now the owner of a new hat for next winter! I don't donate wool. Most has to be hand washed and left flat to dry. That's tough for people with different abilities and their caregivers, so I give blended yarns, yes, they are the acrylic yarns.
More yarn has arrived. Lovely Canadiana that will be knitted up into toques for ladies and men for Community Homes in Hamilton. I'm using a bulky/chunky yarn for the cowls to go with them. Here they are.
When my Dad passed away a long time ago, the men he worked with in Montreal drove up to his funeral. Mr. Higgs looked at the casket and said to no one in particular, "there goes a lot of knowledge." My Dad was very clever--yes I'm bragging. He learned to weld in the Toronto Shipyards and he never looked back. Unfortunately he never wrote anything down, but he did share with his "sons" and grandsons and so many others both here and abroad by showing them how it was to be done and done right! I promised myself years ago that if I learned something I would share and fortunately with technology I can do that.
