I had this column all written and then that wonderful light bulb came on. The directions for making coasters explains how to lay the fabric, but it is done "clockwise". If you stitch them out like that you have to make sure that you don't fold over the edge of the piece you are sewing towards.
HOWEVER
if you sew them counter clockwise you won't need to think about that. I learned this from Susan S., many years ago. Here we go, photo by photo.
Lay the first piece across the top.....
The second piece is placed on the left hand side.....
The third piece is laid across the bottom.....and the final piece is laid down and remember to tuck it under the first piece.
Before you take it to the sewing machine make sure all folded edges are facing towards the centre. I have a good reason for mentioning that!!
Starting about the centre of one side, stitch around the perimeter
When you are finished the stitching, clip the threads, trim the corners and turn right side out.
WHAT YOU NEED:When you are finished the stitching, clip the threads, trim the corners and turn right side out.
- cut all your fabrics 5 inches square
- cut your fusible fleece 5 inches square
- press two of one fabric and two of another co-ordinating fabric in half, wrong sides together
- with the fabric side up and the fusible side down, lay your pieces on the backing.
- stitch around the perimeter with a 1/4 inch seam allowance and your walking foor.
- secure the stitching at the end
- turn the pieces right side ou
- AND YOU HAVE MADE A COASTER.
Next time packaging your coasters.
