I've had a lot of problems with my left thumb but as knitting has always been my evening work I was getting bored. I found a nice pattern for a headband and cowl so decided to stitch it up. It is from Drops Design and the company is located in Oslo, Norway. I found them on Instagram which seems to be the place I find so many craft places.
The pattern shown is What a Sight! but if you search, type in DROPS 164-27 For some reason that works better!! No idea.
I went down to my local wool shop in Burlington and after discussing the pattern and the yarn, I opted for something different than called for. Shirley gives great advise and she owns The Knitters Boutique on Pearl Street. If you are in the city check it out.
Once I got home with new needles and yarn I decided I wanted to do my own thing so redesigned the pattern. The yarn is beautiful. So easy to knit with and it slides off the needles and it knits up quickly.
Before you ask, yes those are the needles I'm slowly switching over to. They are from LYKKE and the story behind them is a great read. I urge you to pop over and read it. Next time I'm down to the store I will pick up the new smaller cable and another set of needles. They are interchangeable which I find so great.
I really liked the pattern so I continued on.
Cast on 19 stitches
Row 1: K1, P1 Continue to the end of the row ending with K1
Row 2: K1. S1Purlwise. Continue to the end of the row ending with K1
That's it!! Two rows repeated until you reach 19". This yarn takes about 6 rows for an inch.
I used this yarn and 7MM needles
This yarn is 50% super fine alpaca
and
50% Peruvian Wool
20 rows is 4" and that is on 6 mm needle
It took a few nights to finish this up, but my thumb wasn't sore when I was done, so I was really happy. Maybe whatever was wrong, is now right!!
To make the twist at the front of the headband, watch this Youtube video. It is simplicity itself.
This is it. All done and ready for a cool day.
The plate on the table. It's my favourite. We bought it in Prince Edward Island years ago. It was made by a potter by the name of Patti Hawkins as a one off. I walked into the studio and knew it was coming home. We have the matching bowl. She now lives in Nova Scotia and is on Facebook, if you would like to check out her work.
