you get these little ideas and you run with them. What if? is always a question that runs through my mind. It keeps it occupied from more important things. One week's "what if" was about our heritage. My Dad's family immigrated to Canada from Ireland many, many years ago. Karl is the Great Dane.
When I started to look around the internet for ideas Ireland was easy. A shamrock!!
I found this and I had one colour of the embroidery thread, but no Aida Cloth. I stopped in at Michaels and picked some up and finally got smart enough to cut it down to the size I needed instead of using the whole piece for one tiny little cross stitch
There is a Celtic emblem in the centre of each leaf but it's difficult to see when you are "on top" of it. If you don't see it, just lean back and it will appear as if a little leprechaun performed his magic.
The Great Dane's was a bit more difficult. I wanted the church in Sejeslev, Danmark but what I wanted and what I found were not the same. I kept searching and then it hit me.
The Danes make hearts every Christmas and put them on their trees. My fateher-in-law taught me how to make them and it was no easy feat. He spoke Danish, I spoke English but boy could we do hand signals!!
I found this!
and decided it was perfect. I didn't realize how quickly I could get it done. One afternoon and evening and I was finished. Mine is not quite the same. I couldn't fathom the little squares off the hearts so I did more hearts.
Both patterns were free. I love free!
The one thing I absolutely love is my magnetic board to hold my pattern and my needle nanny. I purchased this from Patty who lives in Newfoundland. Her website has a variety all reflecting Newfoundland.
Browse around and see what she has to offer.
I have ordered another one. I'm always looking for my little snips at my long arm. I can now wear the new one on my sweater and the scissors will be handy.
Patty is also on Instagram so you can follow her there and she has a group on Facebook should you care to join.
