I solved that problem

I had white yarn left over from two scarves.  No idea if I had enough for a hat, knew I didn't have enough for mitts.  I searched the internet and found one here:

https://littleredwindow.com/stripey-baby-hat-knitting-pattern

I copied and pasted it into word for my own use.  Sorry, copyright, can't share mine.  I used a round needle until the very top when I switched over to two needles to finish it up.  The only thing I did differently was instead of 5 rows of "K2, P2", I did 10.  I like a good rib on a hat.

When it was all knitted up, I wanted more!  I still had yarn.  I googled some silly thing but by gosh I found what I wanted.  You try asking for wiggly worm thingies for a hat.
I found the instructions here, on Ravelry, which is a free website for knitters, and those that crochet.

They are called "curlicues" of all things.  I would never have thought of that.  I made these up the way it was printed.  Didn't like the method, so devised my own.  It worked.

As I knew how to do it, I didn't add.  I make two, then two more and join them where the one stitch is carried over from one curl to the other.  I didn't find it necessary to wrap it tightly around a small needle.  They curl all on their own.
"Curlicues" for a little girl.  I'll find something else for a boy's hat when I get more yarn that is suitable for a boy.
One more post on Monday.  Today I'm going to bake and look out my kitchen window at our little winter wonderland.
