Oh dear

where do I begin.  I bought this wonderful kit from Alberta because I loved the quilt.  The fabric line and the pattern are here:  http://www.unitednotions.com/fcc_once-upon-a-memory.pdf
I have no complaints about the kit, I have no complaints against the fabric, but the book that came with the kit is giving me grief!!

Now I will admit I do design most of my own quilts and maybe that is part of the problem, but you sure need your wits about you when you read the book. I've made a lot of quilts in my life, but this book has boggled my mind on more than one occasion.

I decided to make 8 blocks and then the four blocks.  After reading the directions several times, I finally "got it".  After the sewing, I picked the book up again and was blown away with the terminology.  "Proof" your block.  Now that's a term I have never heard before.  I sat and shook my head.  It means to cut your block to a measurement of 8 1/2 x 14 1/2"!

I had all the cutting done and finished 4 of the eight blocks.  I had the rest pinned and thought I would work on the final four.  Whoops, more things to decifer.  I'm not going to write it up.

I guess this book is okay if you follow things very carefully and mark everything!  I do mean everything!

You will discover that at one point 3 "F's" sewn together will give you "G", but there is also another "G" you cut previously for an inner border.  It is just mind blowing.

I'm not going to recommend this book to anyone under very advanced quilter.  I doubt if I will finish anything else in this book.  I think I'm going to take the final little blocks and design my own runner from what is left of the fabric.

The book retails for approximately $29 Canadian.  A lot of money for a book that is frustrating to work with.

On a lighter note, Karl and I went to Cram-A-Cruiser which turned out to be a SWAT vehicle!!
