A friend of mine

passed away the other day.
I was shocked and saddened by the sudden loss of Maryjane.
I remember way back when her little granddaughter Sarah was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
I knew by the treatment she was receiving that Sarah would not live very long, but we kept the faith along with Maryjane
Unfortunately, at the tender age of 4 Sarah lost her battle with cancer.
I was just starting to do workshops for the Oakville Quilters' Guild with Charleen
and after we heard the news we took up the challenge
of making hats for the children in the cancer ward at MacKids.
We held two workshops, one during the week
and one on the Saturday at St. Paul's United Church.
We called it Cupcakes for Kids.
Yes, we made cupcakes and served them.
If you came in wearing a hat, you won a prize.
Mary Jane said she would come out.

I told her it wasn't necessary, but the day of the workshop
I looked down the hallway and there was Maryjane
tears were running down her cheeks.
It was a difficult walk for her, but she did it!
The women of the Guild worked hard at their task and I believe
we donated nearly 150 hats to MacKids that fall.

Maryjane never stopped giving to MacKids.
She turned her attention to rag quilts and every month
Maryjane
delivered quilts to the hospital.

Maryjane will be missed by many, her family most of all.
Her friends didn't have a chance to say goodbye
RIP Maryjane Vallbacka
Thank you for the memories
You and Sarah have a party up there
You are back together again.
