I figured there had to be a better way to make these pillows than what is out there on the internet. I tried something and it worked.
1. Cut the selvedge off both ends of your fabric. Trim your fabric to 19” wide. You will trim again after quilting. You only need 1/2 meter/1/2 yard to make these pillows.
2. Layer your backing, batting and the top. Quilt it out. (If you have a really good friend with a long arm, offer her a fiver and she might do it for you.)
3. When finished, trim your piece to 18 inches wide and cut the ends evenly. Bind these two ends.4. Fold your piece in half and mark the middle with a pin on both sides
6. Fold up the left piece from the zero line on your cutting board. On the other end find the 17 1/2" line — use your ruler if you want too — and fold that over.
8. I use my red clips to hold everything in place. After straight stitching I overcast the edges.
9. This is what the inside will look like.
10. Make sure you zig-zag the edges of the pillow after sewing your straight seam. I use my walking foot and it comes out to about 3/
11. Turn your pillow right side out one end only, and place your pillow form inside. Once that is done fold over the other side. You will be working to get the form in but once you do, wiggle everything around until it looks fantastic.
12. That’s it! No more guess work on how wide to cut the two pieces for the back. A simple easy gift for everyone
TIP; Michaels charges $22.49 for an 18” square pillow form. Mary Maxim charges $6.99 on sale or $7.99 regular. There is so much stuffing inside you can remove some and save it for another pillow. Yes they ship! Quickly!! Lens Mills charge $6.49 per form. Yes you have to drive to one of their stores to pick up.
