Every quilt tells a story......

this one is no exception.
Years ago, I took a class on the Irish Chain at the store I worked in.  It was a "Quilt in a Day", by Eleanor Burns.  Now, I dunno if Eleanor has maids to do her cooking and cleaning, but there was no way I could ever have made this in a day.
After it was finished -- which, if I recall properly -- was a week's worth of work, I looked at the "cream" blocks and thought they looked empty.  Our daughter suggested a rose, so I embroidered one in each block.
When the top was finished I decided to make it into a duvet cover.  Huge mistake!!  It did that job for awhile and then it was taken off the duvet and set in the linen closet where it sat for a long time.
One day Karl and I were out in the garage looking for something and here was the duvet cover in a bucket that he had used in the shed at the old house.  I took it out and there was a stain on the back.  I gave  a lot of thought about what to do with it.  It was in perfect shape.
I spoke to a friend about whether they could use this for her charity programme.  The answer was yes.  She picked up a flannel backing for me and I finally got the top and backing ready for quilting.  A few hours later it was done.  I used Ginger Hearts for the pantograph and OMNI 3009, Colonial Grey thread to stitch out the design.
I salvaged enough of the duvet backing for the binding.  After two nights of hand stitching it is in the pile of quilts ready for donation to various charities.  This one is for Circle of Love, a local organization that makes quilts for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
