I'm still purging

but this time I'm really cleaning out.
There was a tote box in the back bedroom that I hadn't looked in for a long, long time.  It was time!  I was shocked to find this
It is one section of a larger piece from Pine Needles, called Nature's Paintbrush.  I'm presuming the flower is the Indian Paintbrush which I have never seen in person, but if you Google it, you will see it is lovely.  I'm going to give you a link so you can read about the designer, McKenna Ryan.
These are a few more from that series.  I'm thinking I may spend the "big" bucks and buy the rest.  It would make a great winter project.
I started with the butterflies and gave them some veins in their wings.
Then I did the hill, which actually shows up much better on the back.  I should have chosen another thread colour.  This hill reminds me of our front lawn this summer!

I found out the hard way years ago, it is better to stitch the appliqué first and then do the background. No idea why, it just works out and everything is nice and flat
I worked away for part of a Sunday morning and had this much done by lunchtime

Sometimes the backing is just as nice to look at as the front.
I spent the afternoon finishing it up.  I have no idea why I tucked this away.  I have no idea what I'm going to do with it now that it is done.

I had an idea what I was going to do with the borders, but with all the heavy quilting in the centre, it needed a bit more than the original thought.  I opted to do butterflies flitting around.  This is an Anne Bright panto that was in my collection.  I kept tracing over the butterfly until it went from hand to brain, then I quickly sat down at the machine.
 I don't think I did too badly.

The birds have been visiting the bird bath every chance they get.  Sometimes they bath, sometimes they just drink and drink.  We get the chick-a-dees, the woodpeckers, the goldfinches and even my favourites -- the little sparrows.
This one sat on the side of the bowl and drank, then hopped in and had a great time.
More of the same hot, hot weather in store again this week.
If you read this and you are in an area that is getting any kind of moisture would you please send it our way.  We are so desperate for rain.
