That's it ...... winter ...... be gone! Living here of course, we could have snow in May, but that isn't typical. This year ...... it could be. It has been known to snow about the 24th of that month and not that far north of us either.
I decided to dig out a pattern that my friend Anita gave to me. I changed it a bit.....made it shorter and wider and left off one word because of the new length. My door into my living-room won't take the length the pattern suggested.
I figured this pattern would be similar to the works in that book. Not quite and that was disappointing. The pattern pieces are perfect -- if you pay attention. I unfortunately, didn't, so I had to fiddle and fool with those long stems around the fence and the posts that are holding up the bird houses.
If you want a layout sheet, then this isn't for you. You are on your own, but that doesn't mean you can't do it. You just muck about a bit more.
I auditioned my fabrics ~~ twice. Once on the work station and then again on the flannel wall.The green is a bit soft for a spring green, but it doesn't take over the piece.......it leaves the bird houses to "speak" to you and that's what I wanted.
A grey fence instead of brown or white. I wanted the "weathered" look.
The blue background is not a "sky". It is by Robert Kaufman and it is called "Fusions".
You don't always have to choose the same cream/tan/off white fabrics for backgrounds. Anything goes!
I traced the pattern upstairs at my desk onto Steam-a-Seam. It is printed dark enough that you can see through............until you have to do a reverse. Then I went downstairs and used the light table.
This is it. All done in less than an afternoon.
I took a few minutes to browse through my landscape books before I started to quilt this. I find them helpful in giving ideas if you are stuck in a rut.
