Our summer has been

incredibly busy.  We came home from PEI to a garden that was exploding!!!
It went from this

to this in a couple of weeks.
Peter was taking care of the yard and he couldn't believe what he saw from one trip to the house to the next.

We have pickled our beets,
Karl made his dill pickles, Cody made dill pickles, Peter made dill pickles, we gave some to a neighbour to make dill pickles
Peter made hot dog relish and I made a Danish pickle called Asier.  So yummy with any kind of fish or pork or straight from the jar!
I have frozen cauliflower and pickled it.

We pickled onions too!
There is broccoli in the freezer and the green peppers are beautiful and bountiful.  Karl has started to make his tomato juice and I'm thinking I might can some tomatoes.  We are digging potatoes and cooking them up, carrots are big and so very sweet, the cabbages are getting bigger and bigger, so we all see some cabbage rolls being made.  The squash are going to be so tasty come Thanksgiving.
It's been a long time since we had a yield like this.  The weather has been perfect for growing this year.  Not that hot, hot weather that no one wants.  Enough rain to keep things moving along.  Yes, we'll take a summer like this every year.  Our family will eat well this winter, because that is what we grow it for................our winter food.
When we sit in the evenings, I've been reading.  I downloaded a book onto my iPad, then another and another.  I want to read one more so that is going to be downloaded too.  It's an amazing series by Robyn Carr.......these are my three so far.  I've smiled and laughed and had good cries.  They are just my kind of book.
